Florilegia

Solo Exhibition by Gia Hendrix

In Florilegia (2025), I present an introspective exploration of the natural world, blending
past and present into ethereal realms where the boundaries between the physical and
the imagined blur. The exhibition's title, derived from the Latin word for “a collection
of flowers” serves as a metaphor for my desire to harmonize the fleeting beauty of
nature with the reflective spaces of memory and time.

A range of works from oil paintings on canvas to works on paper —Florilegia explores
the intersection of botanical forms with atmospheric landscapes, The exhibition acts
as a bridge between the my past and present, harmonizing these distinct moments
into a unified whole, where the natural world exists as both a tangible presence and a
delicate, intangible spirit.

The works in Florilegia convey a rich, layered narrative that intertwines botanical
beauty with the resonance of memory. Flowers, with their ephemeral nature, serve as
a central motif, yet they exist within a broader landscape of shifting atmospheres. As I
blend elements of the familiar with the abstract, the exhibition explores how personal
history can transform into a visual language, where emotional and sensory
experiences emerge within abstract yet familiar forms. The interplay of landscapes
creates a space where time is experienced not as linear, but as a layered, unfolding
narrative.

In this body of work, Florilegia becomes more than just a celebration of nature—it is a
meditation on the transient nature of life, where landscapes evolve and merge with my
inner world. An invitation to slow down and observe, to appreciate the
interconnectedness of time, place, and memory, and to experience the delicate balance between beauty, fragility, and renewal.
